Marketplace Charter

One set of rules, signed by both sides.

Every buyer and every supplier on AfrexMarket signs this Charter before anything is posted, quoted or ordered. It is short, and it binds both sides the same way.

1

Who signs this Charter

Every buyer and every supplier on AfrexMarket signs this Charter. You sign it by ticking the Charter box when you post a need, register supply, send a shortlist or request a quote, and the signature is recorded against your reference. Nothing is posted, quoted or introduced for a party that has not signed.

2

Who can trade here

A buyer in Mozambique orders on AfrexMarket as a client of Massango Holdings LDA, and a supplier sells on AfrexMarket as a client of Afrexpay (Pty) Ltd in South Africa. The trade desk confirms that client relationship before a quotation is accepted or an order is placed, and arranges it for a party that is not yet a client.

3

Say what is true

Descriptions, quantities, specifications, origin, capacity and lead times are stated as they are. A supplier offers only what it can deliver, and a buyer posts only what it intends to buy. A post that the desk has not yet confirmed is marked as not confirmed until it is.

4

The desk makes the introduction

Both sides post without their names showing. The trade desk holds each party's identity until both have accepted an introduction, and neither side approaches the other around the desk before that introduction is made.

5

Introduced business stays on the market

A buyer and a supplier introduced through AfrexMarket keep that transaction on AfrexMarket, together with the repeat orders that follow from the introduction. Taking introduced business off the market to avoid the charges in this Charter is a breach of it.

6

What suppliers pay

A supplier pays a nominal registration fee to join the register, and AfrexMarket takes 3% of the value of each transaction the supplier concludes through the market. AfrexMarket works as the supplier's sales executive - it finds the buyer, builds the transaction and brings the order - so the 3% is paid only on business that closes, and it is settled with that transaction.

7

What buyers pay

A buyer pays the quoted price for the goods. Logistics is an additional charge to the buyer, calculated on the invoice of what the buyer requires and carried out through the buyer's own logistics partners or through AfrexMarket's approved partners. Every charge appears on the quotation before the buyer accepts it.

8

Quotations and orders

Prices are given on quotation for the whole order - goods, quantity, destination and delivery. A quotation holds for the validity period stated on it, and nothing is ordered until the buyer accepts. A supplier that has quoted stands by that quotation for its validity period.

9

Payment

Payment for an order is made into the Afrexpay payment environment against the order reference, so the money and the goods stay on one record from quotation to delivery.

10

Compliance

Each party keeps its own side of the transaction compliant: its registrations, permits, certificates and the documents its goods require. Buyers and suppliers can both get assistance to make sure they are compliant through Moeletsi Africa, the network of compliance experts that AfrexMarket works with.

11

Delivery and documents

A supplier delivers to the specification that was quoted and accepted, with the documents the goods require travelling with them. Collection, transit, the border and delivery are recorded against the order, and delivery is confirmed before a transaction is closed.

12

When something goes wrong

A short delivery, damaged goods, a customs delay or a disputed document is raised with the trade desk and recorded against the order with an owner and a status. Both sides work it through the desk until it is resolved.

13

Confidentiality and conduct

What one party learns about another through the desk is used only for the transaction it was shared for. No party offers prohibited, counterfeit or misdescribed goods, and a party that breaches this Charter may be suspended from the market.

14

Changes to the Charter

The Charter may be updated. The version a party signed applies to the transactions it signed for, and the current version is always the one published on this page.
